Anthropic’s reported Volta deal shows the compute race widening

Anthropic is reportedly adding another large compute partner as AI labs continue locking down power, data-center space and advanced chips years ahead of demand.

TechCrunch, citing Bloomberg, reports that Anthropic signed a $10 billion, six-year cloud deal with Volta, an AI cloud startup founded earlier this year. Volta will provide compute capacity to the Claude maker, with crypto-mining company Bitdeer helping develop a Norwegian data center for the project.

The facility is expected to deliver 133 megawatts of capacity and use Nvidia’s Vera Rubin systems. Volta is part of Nvidia’s Cloud Partner program, a group of cloud providers that build services around Nvidia GPUs.

The deal fits a broader pattern: frontier AI companies are no longer relying on one cloud relationship or one data-center path. They are spreading bets across hyperscalers, neoclouds and specialized infrastructure partners. That can increase capacity, but it also ties model competition more tightly to energy availability and long-term capital commitments.
