Cloudflare is adding a missing piece for agentic commerce: a way for software agents to identify themselves and pay for services without handing every step back to a human.
Cloudflare Wallets will let account holders claim a wallet handle and, later, use wallets to pay for APIs and content. The company says each account will be able to create virtual wallets for agents, with guardrails such as allowances, allow lists and maximum transaction sizes.
The system is tied to Cloudflare’s broader Monetization Gateway work and the x402 protocol, which attaches payments to HTTP requests. In practice, that could let an agent pay for API calls, MCP tools, data or content while staying inside predefined spending limits.
The announcement is early, and safety details will matter. Giving agents money-like capabilities raises questions about fraud, authorization and mistakes. But it shows where agent platforms are heading: tools that let automated systems not only browse and call APIs, but also transact under human-defined rules.
