Threads adds Meta AI chats inside direct messages

Meta is rolling out Meta AI inside Threads direct messages, according to TechCrunch. The update gives Threads users a way to chat with the company’s assistant from the same inbox they use for conversations on the social platform.

The feature is a product-distribution move. Rather than making people open a separate AI app, Meta is placing its assistant inside a fast-growing social surface where users already share links, jokes, and recommendations. That can make casual AI use feel less like a separate workflow.

The report does not indicate that Threads is becoming an AI-first app or that every user will immediately rely on the bot.
