Ars Technica covers new research that systematically evaluated large language models on their resilience to Russian propaganda. The study presented models with prompts designed to elicit responses aligned with known disinformation narratives and measured how often each model pushed back, corrected falsehoods, or amplified the propaganda.

The results showed meaningful variation across models. Some LLMs consistently identified and rejected propaganda framing, while others were more susceptible to repeating false claims when presented in a persuasive or authoritative tone. The researchers published a leaderboard ranking models by their propaganda resistance scores.

The study has implications for AI deployment in information-sensitive contexts such as news summarization, educational tools, and public-facing chatbots. As AI becomes a primary information interface for millions of users, a model susceptibility to coordinated disinformation campaigns becomes a safety and security concern.
