Stability AI is repositioning itself as an AI toolmaker for music professionals under executive chairman Sean Parker and CEO Prem Akkaraju. The shift follows a period of overspending and leadership turmoil that led to an $80 million rescue two years ago.

In August, the company raised $76 million from investors that included Sony, Warner and Universal. The three music companies also licensed their catalogs for model training, giving Stability a different legal and commercial foundation from developers accused of using recordings without permission.

Stability has since released three audio models and music-editing software. The tools can generate complete instrumental tracks or shorter clips from text prompts. Parker says a planned update will let musicians guide generation by humming a melody or beatboxing a rhythm.

The available details do not establish how revenue will be shared with artists or how broadly the licensed catalogs cover training. They do show that Stability is making music, rather than image generation, the center of its recovery strategy. Its success will depend on whether working musicians find the controls precise enough for editing and whether licensing terms remain sustainable as the models and products expand.
