Smartsheet has made its Model Context Protocol server generally available, giving AI assistants a standardized way to read and change live work-management data. The service exposes more than 40 tools for sheets, rows, columns, project structure, and automations.

AWS describes two integrations. Business teams can use Amazon Quick to ask about blocked tasks, update records, or build dashboards in natural language. Developers can connect through the Kiro editor to retrieve specifications, track dependencies, and update task status without leaving their coding workflow.

The server returns structured context such as cell history, comments, column types, and row relationships rather than a raw API dump. Smartsheet says this reduces the number of tokens an agent must process. It supports OAuth 2.0 or personal access tokens and offers separate endpoints for the United States, Europe, and Australia.

Use requires a Smartsheet Business, Enterprise, or Advanced Work Management plan. Amazon Quick users need Author-level access or higher, while Kiro users need the editor and Node.js. Because agents can write as well as read, organizations still need permissions and approval rules suited to consequential project changes.
