ByteDance's Seedance video models are not open-weight or open-source based on the public materials OpenRouter reviewed. Its search found no downloadable checkpoint or model license for Seedance 2.5, Seedance 2.0, 2.0 Fast, 2.0 Mini or 1.5 Pro.
The review covered ByteDance's launch and model pages, the official ByteDance-Seed organizations on GitHub and Hugging Face, and OpenRouter's catalog. ByteDance publishes other model repositories in those locations, but none contains Seedance weights. Repositories using the Seedance name were third-party API clients or interfaces for hosted services rather than models that run on a user's hardware.
That distinction has practical consequences. A checkpoint is required to run a model offline or in an air-gapped environment, fine-tune it on private footage, or self-host it to meet a specific data-residency policy. Without weights, customers are governed by the pricing, data handling and service terms of whichever hosted provider processes their requests.
OpenRouter serves five Seedance models through its asynchronous video endpoint, where clients submit a job, wait for completion and then download the result. A common request format can make switching hosted models easier, but it does not provide local execution. OpenRouter notes that it cannot rule out a release it missed and says it will update the post if ByteDance publishes an official checkpoint.
