An open-source command-line tool called RemoveMacAI gives macOS 27 users a single way to disable Apple Intelligence features and remove their local model files. Apple removed the previous master switch, leaving controls spread across several settings panes while models remain stored on disk.
The developer says the utility turns off Siri, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, the ChatGPT extension and automated summaries. It then deletes the models and prevents macOS from downloading them again. Dictation is intended to keep working, and a status command lists the size of each installed model.
The developer estimates the standard model set occupies about 12GB, although the amount can vary. The Verge found Apple Intelligence listed at 35.05GB on one MacBook Air. A `removemacai revert` command can re-enable the features and allow model downloads if the user changes their mind.
RemoveMacAI is an unofficial community project, not an Apple-supported uninstaller. Its developer claims the changes survive operating-system updates, but users should review the source and current issue reports before granting a script system-level access. Future macOS changes could also break its assumptions or cause removed files to return.
