Recursive Superintelligence signs $410 million AWS compute deal

Recursive Superintelligence has signed a $410 million compute agreement with Amazon Web Services. The AI company, which emerged from stealth in May with $650 million in funding, is working on open-ended self-improving systems that could require large amounts of compute.

Founder and CEO Richard Socher told TechCrunch that the deal is likely to be one of the smallest compute agreements the company signs in the next few years. Recursive’s approach puts much of the budget that might otherwise go to headcount and operations directly into compute, with Socher describing the focus as “agent count” rather than headcount.

Unlike some cloud deals in frontier AI, TechCrunch reports that Amazon’s role does not include an investment component. AWS says the agreement includes co-developing infrastructure for companies with similar needs. The deal underlines how quickly compute commitments have become a defining feature of AI strategy, even for young companies that have not yet proven their products at scale.
