Perplexity has introduced Teammates, persistent AI agents designed to continue working on ongoing projects rather than finish a single request and stop. Each agent receives its own virtual machine with a desktop and browser, allowing it to carry out tasks over time.
Users can follow progress in dedicated threads inside the Perplexity app and communicate with an agent through Slack. That makes Teammates closer to a remote worker process than the company’s existing Computer feature, which handles one-off assignments.
The service is limited to Perplexity’s Max plan, priced at $200 per month. The company has not yet published enough independent usage data to show how reliably the agents handle long-running work or how quickly plan limits are reached. Other AI providers have introduced similar persistent-agent products at different price points, but nominal subscription prices do not reveal the amount of work each plan permits.
Persistent agents can reduce repeated setup for recurring research and operational tasks. They also make monitoring more important, because a process with its own browser and machine can continue taking actions after the initial instruction.
