OpenAI has reopened its $200-per-month Pro subscription to new sign-ups while cutting the API credits provided per dollar by half. The previous five-hour usage cap will not return, so subscribers can distribute their weekly allowance according to their own workload.
OpenAI employee Thibault Sottiaux said users should still complete more work than a month earlier because GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna cost half as much through the API as their predecessors. Model-price reductions may therefore offset the smaller nominal credit allocation, depending on which models and tasks a subscriber uses.
The change moves the service away from a heavily subsidized flat-rate plan and closer to usage-based billing. It does not guarantee that every Pro user receives the same value as before: workloads tied to other models or unusually heavy usage may see a different result. Prospective subscribers should compare their expected model mix and token consumption rather than relying on the monthly price alone.
