OpenAI is reportedly negotiating a private funding round of up to $30 billion at a $1.25 trillion pre-money valuation, choosing additional private capital while it prepares for a possible public listing.
CNBC reported that Coatue and investors in the United Arab Emirates are leading the talks. UAE participation could be paired with an agreement for additional computing capacity. OpenAI declined to comment, and both the amount and valuation may change before any deal closes.
The proposed price is lower than a Bloomberg report from the previous month that put the target at $1.4 trillion. It would still make OpenAI the world’s most highly valued private company if completed above $1 trillion. The company’s March financing valued it at $852 billion after the investment.
OpenAI filed confidential IPO paperwork in June, but another large private round could give it more time before entering public markets. It would also set a demanding benchmark for the eventual listing and for rival Anthropic, which has also filed confidentially. The numbers describe investor negotiations, not a completed transaction or an independent measure of business value. Any final valuation will depend on agreed terms, dilution and whether the reported commitments turn into funded capital.
