OpenAI has opened applications for the Rosalind Academic Plan, which provides sponsored access to GPT-Rosalind and related research tools for eligible academic life-science laboratories. The offer is currently limited to labs at US universities that do not already have an enterprise agreement with OpenAI.

Qualifying groups can receive access for as many as 30 lab members for one year. The plan is aimed at researchers working in fields such as biology and medicine, where GPT-Rosalind is positioned as a tool for analyzing scientific material and supporting research workflows rather than as a substitute for experimental validation.

The program lowers the cost of trying OpenAI’s specialized research system across an entire lab, instead of requiring each researcher to obtain separate access. That could make it easier for teams to test how the model fits into literature review, data interpretation and other collaborative tasks.

The offer remains a selective academic program, not a general free tier. Labs must apply and meet the stated eligibility rules, and the sponsored period ends after one year. OpenAI has not extended the initial offer to institutions outside the United States or to universities that already hold an enterprise contract.
