OpenAI, Anthropic and Nvidia each recorded their highest quarterly US lobbying spending between July and September, according to federal disclosures reviewed by The Verge. Together, the three companies spent $5.8 million during the period.
Nvidia reported $2.2 million, Anthropic $2.1 million and OpenAI $1.5 million. Those figures remain within the range of established technology companies: Microsoft has spent at least $2 million per quarter since 2021, while Google regularly exceeds $3 million. The records nevertheless show newer AI companies building a larger Washington presence.
Anthropic’s disclosures listed issues including child online safety, AI export controls and legislation intended to make data-center developers bear more of their energy costs. OpenAI reported work on copyright, frontier-model cybersecurity evaluations, safety oversight and antitrust protection for information sharing. Nvidia’s agenda included export controls, competition, quantum computing and responsible AI design.
The filings show advocacy topics and spending, not whether any company changed a policy outcome. They also cover a period before US midterm elections, when control of Congress and approaches to AI regulation were active political questions.
