Open models are becoming core AI research infrastructure

Accepted work at ICML 2026 shows how open models and open AI infrastructure are shaping the direction of AI research. The company noted that it had 74 papers accepted at the conference.

The message is that open model ecosystems are no longer peripheral to frontier work; they increasingly provide shared baselines, tooling, and reproducible infrastructure for researchers.

That framing also supports NVIDIA’s broader position as a supplier of both the compute stack and the software ecosystem used to build modern AI systems.
