A New Jersey deputy attorney general has been arrested on felony charges tied to AI-generated child sexual abuse material. Bucks County investigators allege that Brian Richard Fitzgerald used photos of real minors taken from social media to create sexualized images and distributed them online.

The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a report about an image shared by a Discord user in July. Police said subscriber records, internet addresses and digital forensics led them to Fitzgerald’s home. A search allegedly recovered prompts and scripts used to generate the material, along with chat logs in which the account holder admitted making and sharing multiple images.

Fitzgerald is charged with possession and dissemination of child sexual abuse material and criminal use of a communications facility. The allegations have not been proven in court. His position makes the case unusual, but law-enforcement agencies have pursued other officials and private individuals accused of similar conduct.

US authorities have repeatedly stated that child sexual abuse material remains illegal when generated with AI. The case also shows how synthetic content can involve direct harm to identifiable children when their ordinary photographs are used as source material. Technical novelty does not remove existing criminal or victim-protection concerns.
