The Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, has commissioned an NVIDIA DGX GB300 system, giving students, faculty, and researchers on-premises access to large-scale AI computing. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang visited the campus for the commissioning during the school’s Converge @ NPS event.
The system is paired with NVIDIA Mission Control software and is intended for both model training and inference. NVIDIA says the work will support applications including weather prediction, cybersecurity, disaster resilience, and response planning.
The installation builds on an NVIDIA AI Technology Center at the Monterey campus, which serves as a hub for AI research and graduate instruction. NPS educates active-duty officers and international partners, so the practical focus is applied research tied to real operational problems rather than general commercial deployment.
The move shows how frontier AI infrastructure is spreading into military education and research settings. The benefit is faster experimentation close to the people studying defense problems; the responsibility is making sure students learn the limits and risks of these systems alongside their capabilities.
