Meta’s Muse agent recorded more North American downloads and daily users in its first 12 days than ChatGPT did at the same point in its mobile launch, according to estimates from analytics company Apptopia. The comparison suggests a strong debut, but it is not based on Meta’s internal data.
Restricting both launches to iOS in the United States and Canada, Apptopia estimates 1.8 million Muse downloads versus 1.3 million for ChatGPT. Muse had about 359,000 daily iOS users in the US, also above ChatGPT’s corresponding early figure. Across iOS and Android, Muse reached an estimated 2.8 million installs and 642,000 US daily users.
The launches are not identical. ChatGPT initially launched globally but only on iOS, while Muse started on both major mobile platforms in the US and Canada. Historical timing, public awareness of AI and Meta’s ability to promote products through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp also make direct conclusions difficult.
More than 95 percent of Muse users are also Facebook users and 63 percent use Instagram, Apptopia says. That overlap may help distribution, but early installation does not establish long-term retention, task reliability or revenue.
