Mistral has released OCR 4, positioning the model as an enterprise document AI system rather than a narrow text extractor. The release highlights support for 170 languages, structured output, and bounding boxes that can preserve where information appeared on a page.
The practical shift is deployment flexibility. Self-hosting gives regulated teams a path to use OCR on sensitive contracts, forms, research PDFs, and internal records without sending every document through a hosted service.
For AI apps that depend on retrieval or workflow automation, better document parsing can reduce the cleanup step between raw files and usable structured data.
