Midjourney buys Co-Star as it prepares its first consumer apps

Midjourney has acquired Co-Star, the personalized astrology app, as the AI image-generation company prepares to build its first dedicated apps. The Verge reports that Co-Star founder Banu Guler will continue running the astrology product while also becoming Midjourney’s chief design officer.

The deal gives Midjourney a consumer app team with experience building a daily-use product around personalization, notifications, and social compatibility features. Co-Star combines human-written material, NASA data, and AI-generated personalization to deliver horoscopes and friend-compatibility prompts. The acquisition terms were not disclosed, and Bloomberg previously reported that the deal closed in the spring.

Midjourney is best known for image generation through Discord and its web interface, not standalone mobile or consumer productivity apps. Founder David Holz told Bloomberg that Guler and her team will help build Midjourney’s first apps, including one focused on image generation. The acquisition does not prove a full pivot into astrology, but it does show Midjourney trying to turn powerful creative models into more designed, repeatable consumer experiences.
