A new Microsoft Signal piece focuses on an emerging standard designed to help AI systems discover the tools available to them rather than relying on hard-coded integrations.
That matters because agents are only useful when they can safely find the right service, understand what it does, and call it with the right context. Standardized tool discovery could reduce custom glue code and make enterprise agent deployments easier to audit.
The trend also points to a larger shift in AI infrastructure: model quality is no longer the only bottleneck. Tooling, permissions, and interoperability are becoming core product requirements.
