Microsoft has made Fabric IQ available in Copilot Chat and Cowork, connecting AI assistants to governed business context already stored in Power BI. Employees can ask business questions and receive answers based on approved metrics, relationships and definitions rather than an assistant’s generic interpretation of company data.

Cowork can use those results inside broader, multistep tasks. Microsoft presented the release alongside new Fabric and Azure Database features designed to place an organization’s data at the center of its AI systems. The aim is to preserve business meaning as information moves from databases and analytics tools into Copilot workflows.

Grounding does not make every answer automatically correct; it makes the source of business context more controlled and auditable. Organizations still need sound semantic models, permissions and data quality. The general availability release gives existing Microsoft data customers a more direct route from governed analytics to employee-facing AI assistance.
