Meta says AI is making it easier for the company to test and launch standalone apps. TechCrunch reports that Mark Zuckerberg told investors Meta has more apps in the works after recent launches tied to Marketplace sellers, Facebook Groups, games, Instagram photos, and AI bedtime stories.

The claim is that large language models can shorten product development cycles, letting teams ship and revise ideas faster than before. Zuckerberg also pointed to recommendation systems as a way to scale new products once they launch.

Meta has tried this strategy before without lasting success. Earlier efforts such as Creative Labs and the NPE Team produced apps including Slingshot, Rooms, Paper, Tuned, BARS, and others, most of which were eventually shut down. That history makes the AI angle important but not decisive.

Threads is Meta’s strongest recent example of a new social product finding traction, with the company saying it has 500 million monthly active users. The broader test is whether AI speeds up experimentation enough to produce durable products, not just more launches.
