Meta’s Pocket can turn a text description into a playable mobile game without exposing a code editor, making AI-assisted creation accessible to people who do not use terminals or development environments. A hands-on Ars Technica test found that an initial game prototype appeared after roughly two minutes and could then be refined through conversational prompts.

Pocket launched in the United States on August 21 after Meta acquired staff from the defunct Gizmo app. Creations, called “gizmos,” live in a TikTok-style feed with likes, comments and reposts. In testing, more than 100 prompts added enemies, scoring, sound effects and control changes to one prototype; most requests worked, and broken versions could be reverted.

The simplicity has a major trade-off. Users cannot view the underlying code, make precise edits directly or export a project as an independent app. Even moving a small interface element requires another prompt and a wait while Pocket rebuilds the result. Suggested features can also be irrelevant or duplicate existing mechanics.

Pocket therefore works well as a rapid prototyping and social-creation tool, but not as a route to owning or shipping conventional software. The most useful output may be the idea and interaction design, while the playable result remains inside Meta’s walled garden.
