Meta’s Muse AI companion reached 10.9 million downloads in its first 40 days, including 10.2 million in the United States, according to market-intelligence firm Sensor Tower. Only 11 other mobile apps have crossed 10 million US downloads that quickly.

Sensor Tower estimates that 30% of US users returned after seven days and 23% after 14 days. Competing AI apps averaged 19% and 16% over the same intervals. Muse also reached 2.5 million daily active users on October 16, up 15% from the previous week.

The launch benefited from Meta’s ability to promote products across services used by billions of people. Paid marketing also played a large role: Sensor Tower says Muse accounted for 39% of Meta’s US advertising spend in October, up from 23% in September.

The comparison has limits. Muse is currently available only in the US and Canada, while ChatGPT launched across more markets. Download and retention estimates also come from a third-party analytics provider rather than audited company disclosures. Even so, the figures indicate that Meta has converted its distribution advantage into an unusually fast consumer-AI launch.
