TypeSafe AI’s Jev reached 35% of paid teams using Vercel’s AI gateway within two weeks of launch, making it the fastest-adopted model in that platform’s records. Vercel says its reach was nearly twice that of the next most popular model, Sonnet 5.5.
Jev is designed to choose among a small set of predefined outputs rather than generate long responses. That makes it suitable for classification, routing and other high-volume decisions where a full general-purpose model may cost more or respond more slowly. Vercel itself replaced GPT-6 Luna with Jev for classifying harmful commands.
The gateway data also shows open-source models handling more than 70% of processed tokens while accounting for nearly 25% of spending. At the same time, spending on frontier-lab models grew tenfold, suggesting that lower-cost open systems and premium models are serving different work rather than simply replacing one another.
The figures are useful evidence of developer uptake but not a complete market measurement. Vercel’s gateway is one routing service and may undercount providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic that sell APIs directly. The 35% figure measures use among Vercel’s paid teams, not a share of all AI customers, workloads or token volume.
