Consumer AI assistants Instinct and Meta’s Muse are gaining the ability to place telephone calls, extending their reach beyond text, email and web interfaces. The features are meant for errands that still require speaking with a business rather than completing an online form.
Instinct Concierge can seek restaurant reservations, ask a dentist to add someone to a cancellation list and contact a cable provider about an account problem. The company is rolling it out to a limited group in early access and says broader availability will follow. Instinct recently also gave assistants email addresses and a trusted network for communicating with other users’ agents.
Meta has separately expanded outbound calling in the United States for Muse. Access is initially prioritized for people who explicitly ask the assistant to make a call, which the company is using as a signal of demand. Details about how calls identify themselves, obtain consent or handle sensitive account information were not provided in the report.
Calling removes a practical barrier for assistants, but it also moves errors into conversations with real businesses. Users will need clear records of what an agent said, what it agreed to and when human approval is required, especially for cancellations, purchases or changes to personal accounts.
