Hugging Face has been approached about a possible sale at a valuation of at least $13 billion, according to a Business Insider report cited by TechCrunch. The company is reportedly working with banks to evaluate bids, but no buyer has been identified and no deal has been reached.
Its platform is central to the open AI ecosystem, hosting models, datasets and developer tools used to test and deploy machine-learning systems. That makes control of the company consequential beyond its investors: researchers and businesses rely on stable access, community governance and the handling of material they upload.
Hugging Face was valued at $4.5 billion in its 2023 financing. CEO Clément Delangue recently said the company was close to profitability and focused on long-term sustainability. It also reportedly rejected a $500 million Nvidia investment earlier this year because it did not want one dominant investor to influence decisions. The acquisition talks may produce nothing. If they advance, users will need clarity on data policies, open-source commitments and whether a new owner could favor its own models or infrastructure.
