Nous Research has added a Blank Slate mode to Hermes Agent, giving operators a cleaner way to start from a minimal configuration. The mode keeps the provider, model, file operations, and terminal available while leaving other toolsets off until they are explicitly enabled.

That matters for agent deployments where tool scope is a security and reliability concern. Fewer default capabilities can reduce accidental actions, simplify debugging, and make it easier to reason about what an agent can access.

The update also highlights a broader trend in AI agent tooling: teams increasingly want precise permissions and reproducible environments, not just more integrations.
