Grafana Labs has expanded Grafana Assistant so it can query and correlate information from more than 30 data sources using natural language. The update is aimed at operations teams that investigate incidents across many disconnected monitoring and infrastructure systems.
The assistant is designed to work across observability backends, cloud platforms, databases, issue trackers, and infrastructure monitoring tools. In practice, that could let an engineer ask one question about an outage and pull together metrics, traces, alerts, and operational context without manually switching between dashboards.
Grafana is positioning the feature as part of a broader move toward “unified observability.” The useful distinction is that the assistant is not just answering general questions; it is meant to generate queries, correlate signals, and help troubleshoot distributed systems.
The limitation is that AI assistance does not remove the need for reliable telemetry or human judgment. It can shorten the path from question to evidence, but teams still need to verify what the system finds before acting during a production incident.
