Google has sued an alleged Chinese cybercrime network accused of using AI to help run large-scale scam text operations.

The case matters because fraud groups do not need frontier AI breakthroughs to cause harm. They need automation, personalization, translation, and scale, all of which modern AI tools can make cheaper.

The lawsuit also shows how AI abuse is becoming a cross-platform security problem, where legal action, model safeguards, and telecom defenses have to work together.
