Google is adding image generation to Search's AI Overviews, according to The Decoder. When the web does not have a matching image for a query, Google's Nano Banana 2 Lite model can generate one instead.
The rollout blurs the line between search retrieval and synthetic content. It could make obscure visual queries more useful, but it also raises questions about labeling, accuracy, and how users distinguish found images from generated ones.
