Google Research has expanded its heat resilience dataset to more than 50 global cities. The work is intended to help cities and researchers better understand urban heat exposure and plan mitigation efforts.

The project shows how AI-adjacent data infrastructure can support public-interest analysis, especially where climate risk is local and unevenly distributed. Better datasets can help planners identify vulnerable neighborhoods and evaluate interventions.

For cities, the value is not just prediction but actionable mapping that can inform cooling centers, tree cover, building policy and emergency planning.
