Facebook is adding a “Your Algorithm” feature that lets people directly manage the topics appearing in their feed and Reels. Users can add interests, remove them or mark individual posts as “interested” and “not interested” from the three-dot menu.

Meta says recommendations respond immediately and may ask follow-up questions to understand why someone liked or disliked a post. People can also describe in their own words what they want to see more or less of, rather than relying only on fixed topic labels.

The company says it is using large language models more heavily in ranking so the system can interpret the context and intent behind those requests. The feature previously appeared on Instagram, and its move to Facebook gives users a more explicit way to shape recommendations that were mostly inferred from behavior.

The controls do not reveal the full ranking formula or guarantee that every unwanted post will disappear. They provide a new input to the recommendation system, not a switch to replace it. The useful test will be whether preferences remain stable over time and meaningfully outweigh engagement signals when the two point in different directions.
