Nvidia will launch DLSS 5 on September 3 with NBA 2K27 as its only confirmed game. The AI graphics system is officially supported on RTX 50-series desktop and laptop processors and through the GeForce Now cloud service.

Unlike conventional upscaling, DLSS 5 generates visual enhancements from the game's source content. Developers receive controls over where and how strongly it changes a scene, including the option to enhance materials or foliage while leaving faces alone. Nvidia's NBA demonstration added shadows and textures more subtly than the heavily altered character examples that drew criticism when the technology was announced.

Availability and performance remain major constraints. Nvidia has not provided dates for other games shown during the original reveal, including Resident Evil Requiem, Starfield and Hogwarts Legacy. The company estimates that DLSS 5 imposes a 50% to 60% performance cost. It says a midrange RTX 5060 can run NBA 2K27 at 1080p with ray tracing and ultra settings only with a fast CPU and six-times frame generation, meaning five of every six displayed frames are generated rather than rendered by the game.
