A new arXiv paper argues that AGI debates need definitional alignment before capability alignment.
The problem is that AGI claims can mix benchmarks, economic impact, autonomy, generality, and marketing language. Without clearer definitions, it becomes difficult to compare systems or evaluate progress responsibly.
The proposed design-science framework is meant to make AGI claims easier to adjudicate rather than leaving them as slogans.
