DeepSeek has taken outside funding for the first time, raising more than 50 billion yuan, according to The Decoder. The round reportedly values the Chinese AI startup at about $50 billion.
The deal highlights how quickly leading model companies can move from research breakthroughs to massive capital raises. DeepSeek’s rise has also become part of a broader contest over open models, national AI ecosystems, and compute access.
For the market, the valuation shows that investor appetite for frontier AI remains strong even as model training and inference costs continue to climb.
