Voice AI company Deepgram is acquiring Daily, the company that created and maintains the open-source Pipecat framework. The purchase price was not disclosed, and both companies say Pipecat will remain open source and vendor-neutral.

Pipecat coordinates the moving parts of real-time voice and video agents, including speech recognition, language models and text-to-speech systems. Daily also operates hosted infrastructure for audio and video calls. Bringing the two together gives Deepgram a framework used to orchestrate competing models as well as deeper expertise in low-latency media transport.

Daily has raised more than $62 million, according to PitchBook figures cited by TechCrunch. Deepgram reached a billion-dollar valuation earlier this year after a $130 million Series C round. Daily cofounder Kwindla Kramer said Deepgram’s commitment to keeping Pipecat open and the companies’ engineering cultures influenced the decision.

That commitment will be important for developers who use Pipecat with providers other than Deepgram. Ownership by one model vendor can create incentives to favor its own services even when a project stays nominally open. The practical evidence will come from future governance, integrations and contribution patterns, not the acquisition announcement alone.
