Developers can now continue a GitHub Copilot app session inside VS Code without copying its history or reconstructing its work. The editor opens the same conversation, code changes, and isolated worktree that the agent used.
The handoff is designed for the point where an agent has completed a substantial change but a developer wants to inspect the diff, edit code by hand, or run the project locally. The existing task and plan remain available in the Copilot sidebar, while the Source Control view exposes the changed files for line-by-line review.
GitHub says users should still check whether the implementation follows repository conventions, covers edge cases, includes appropriate tests, and avoids unrelated changes. Developers can ask follow-up questions in the preserved session or modify files directly.
The workflow requires the Copilot app, VS Code connected to the same GitHub account, access to the repository, and a session that already contains code changes. Updates can then be tested locally and pushed to the pull request associated with the session.
