Anthropic is adding a built-in browser to Claude Cowork so the desktop agent can handle websites that do not offer an API. When a task needs the web, the browser opens in a side panel where Claude can load pages, read information, click controls and type into forms.
The browser is isolated from the user’s normal browser profile, so it cannot automatically inspect existing tabs, bookmarks or saved passwords. Users can transfer a login one page at a time from Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Banking and email services are excluded, while the existing Chrome extension remains the route for working with pages that are already open and authenticated.
The browser is rolling out this week to Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise customers. Anthropic warns that web pages can contain prompt-injection attacks, in which hidden or misleading text tries to redirect an agent. The company advises using trusted sites, and users should still review consequential actions before allowing the agent to submit a form or change data.
