Anthropic is rolling out a Personal Finance tool for Claude that lets users connect bank and credit card accounts through Plaid. The access is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage, or invest a user’s money. The beta is beginning this week for Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the United States.
Users can ask questions about balances, transactions, and spending patterns in everyday language. Claude can total monthly expenses across connected accounts and organize them into categories such as rent and utilities, food and drink, and shopping. Follow-up questions can compare current spending with previous periods or look for other activity that may have been overlooked.
Anthropic says the tool can flag possible duplicate charges, unexpected fees, and bills that are rising over time. It can also address broader questions, including whether a user is spending more than they earn, and explain concepts such as annual percentage rate while calculating interest paid over the previous year.
Claude receives each connected bank’s name, the account name and type, the final four digits of the account number, balances, credit limits, and as much as two years of transaction history. Anthropic says conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models. The service does not offer its own credit cards, loans, or savings accounts.
