OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT into collaborative office work with Spaces, Pages and a forthcoming presentation tool. The features move the service closer to products such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace while keeping AI agents inside the editing environment.
Spaces is a shared workspace where colleagues can collect files and pages, work with ChatGPT and assign tasks to Dots, OpenAI’s persistent agent personas. A page can receive instructions to monitor a team channel and update itself when new information appears.
Pages is a document editor designed for people and agents to write, research, make charts, generate images and visualize information together. Collaborative Slides applies a similar model to presentations: users describe the deck in conversation, then people and agents can edit it and leave comments.
Spaces and Pages are the immediate product announcements. Slides was not yet available at the time of reporting and is scheduled to roll out over the coming weeks. The package increases direct competition with Microsoft even as Microsoft remains an OpenAI partner and is adding AI throughout its own workplace software. Practical adoption will depend on permissions, file compatibility and whether teams can review agent-made changes before shared documents update.
