Bedrock routes three Claude models only between AWS regions in India

Amazon Bedrock now offers Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 4.5 through an India-only cross-region inference profile. Requests can move between AWS regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad to draw from a larger pool of capacity while keeping processing inside the country.

This is different from a single-region endpoint. A prompt sent from either Indian region may be served by the other, so organizations with a requirement to remain in one exact region should not treat the profile as equivalent. Data travels over AWS’s network with encryption in transit, and AWS says it is not stored in the destination region.

Developers can use Anthropic’s Messages API or Bedrock’s InvokeModel and Converse APIs through the Bedrock Runtime endpoint. Guardrails and intelligent prompt routing are supported. Billing, quota use, CloudWatch metrics and CloudTrail records remain attached to the source region even when the other Indian region handles inference.

AWS says Bedrock does not store model inputs or outputs by default, although its documentation notes that some models can require human review when automated safety classifiers flag content. The new profile improves throughput resilience for India-resident workloads, but teams must verify that movement between Mumbai and Hyderabad fits their legal and internal data-location rules.
