Amazon Bedrock AgentCore now offers Runtime Instances for agent workflows that need a persistent computer, shared files or a GPU. Unlike AgentCore’s serverless MicroVM option, an instance can host several agents and keep a session alive for as long as 14 days.
AWS demonstrates the model with three independently deployed music agents. A composition agent uses Claude Sonnet 4.6 to write a brief and runs the open ACE-Step audio model on an Nvidia L4. A delivery agent reads the resulting WAV file, measures it and applies equalization, compression and limiting. A compliance agent rechecks the output and compares its harmonic features with a back catalog.
Giving all three runtimes the same session ID places them on one managed EC2 instance through a shared capacity provider. They can mount the same persistent EBS volumes even when one agent is packaged as a container and another arrives as code from S3. In the sample, the GPU rendered 20 seconds of stereo audio in about nine seconds.
The persistent model trades serverless simplicity for infrastructure constraints and EC2 billing. EBS volumes are tied to an availability zone, so a resumed session can lose persistence if capacity forces it elsewhere unless the team pins capacity or uses snapshots. MicroVMs remain the shorter, consumption-priced option for isolated sessions of up to eight hours.
