AWS shows how to trace Bedrock spending by user, project, and team

AWS has published a guide for visualizing Amazon Bedrock cost attribution with Amazon Athena and CUDOS dashboards.

The post builds on Bedrock’s granular cost attribution feature, which can trace inference requests back to the IAM principal that made the call. With cost allocation tags, teams can also group spending by project, tenant, or business unit. The new guide shows how to set up Cost and Usage Report 2.0 with IAM principal data and query it through Athena.

This is a practical FinOps issue for generative AI. As employees and applications call multiple models through managed services, monthly bills can become hard to explain. Per-user and per-application attribution gives platform teams a clearer way to see which workloads are driving spend.

The guide does not make model use cheaper by itself. It gives organizations the visibility needed to set budgets, detect unusual usage, and decide whether particular Bedrock-powered tools are producing enough value to justify their cost.
