AWS has introduced Agent Registry and an open Agentic Resource Discovery specification to help organizations find AI agents, tools, skills and Model Context Protocol servers across different environments. The goal is to replace manually maintained connections with searchable, governed catalogs.
Within AWS, administrators can create registries with their own approval and authorization rules. Publishers submit records describing a resource and how to reach it; curators approve, reject or deprecate them. Consumers can search by keywords or meaning, and MCP-compatible clients can query the catalog directly. Access can use AWS Identity and Access Management credentials or corporate JSON Web Tokens.
The open specification addresses resources spread across multiple clouds, software services and on-premises systems rather than making one AWS registry the only directory. Discovery does not itself make an agent safe or grant permission to use it: organizations still need review, identity controls and monitoring. The proposal's practical value will depend on adoption by other platforms and on keeping records accurate as tools change or disappear.
