AWS Agent Registry is now generally available, giving organizations a central catalog for the AI agents, tools and skills built across different teams. The service is designed to reduce duplicated work and make it clear who owns a resource, which version is active and whether it has passed review.
Teams can register four kinds of records: Model Context Protocol servers, Agent2Agent agent cards, skills defined through Markdown and associated packages, and custom JSON descriptors. The governance side tracks drafts and submissions, ownership, lineage and lifecycle status. Curators can approve resources before they appear to developers, while access policies and metadata can represent security or compliance requirements.
The discovery side exposes only approved resources and supports both exact-name and meaning-based searches, such as finding a tool for ticket routing. That separation is intended to give administrators a complete inventory without exposing unfinished or rejected components to consumers. Some richer governance features described by AWS remain forward-looking, so buyers should distinguish the currently available registry from the planned broader control layer.
