Paul Meade, Apple’s vice president in charge of Vision Pro, is leaving the company to join OpenAI’s hardware team.

The hire is notable because OpenAI’s long-term product strategy increasingly appears to include dedicated devices and hardware experiences, not just chat interfaces or API access. Mixed-reality experience could be relevant if AI assistants move into always-on, spatial, or wearable contexts.

For Apple, the departure also comes as major technology companies compete for leaders who understand both consumer hardware and AI-driven interfaces.
