Apple has released its rebuilt Siri as an English-language beta across its 2027 operating-system updates. The assistant uses Google Gemini models, with processing split between devices and Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.
Siri can draw on messages, emails and photos for personal context, interpret content on the screen, search the web and take actions across apps. Apple’s examples include finding a recipe mentioned in Messages and adding its ingredients to Reminders. Third-party support includes WhatsApp and Audible, with Outlook, Notability and Tripsy planned.
Early reviewers found the assistant more useful for multi-step requests and screen-aware tasks, but also reported hallucinations, misplaced notes and unreliable retrieval of personal information. Apple says personal data handled through Private Cloud Compute is neither stored nor accessible to the company. Some server-side features have daily limits, and expanded access is planned as a paid option.
The beta will add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish next month. It is not initially available in the European Union on iOS, iPadOS or watchOS while Apple works on privacy and security requirements, and it will not launch in China while regulatory issues remain unresolved. The release is therefore a broad beta, not universal availability.
