Ambi has raised $26 million across funding rounds led by Luminous Ventures and manufacturer Huaqin for an AI assistant designed to gather context from conversations throughout the day. The company is releasing apps for iPhone, Mac and Apple Watch.
The software can work like a meeting notetaker, but users may also enable continuous listening. Ambi says its agent can surface information or begin tasks during a meeting using calendar entries, earlier conversations, a knowledge base and web data. A planned desktop feature would observe work activity, and future hardware is expected to include microphones, a camera, a speaker and a screen.
That ambition creates a consent problem for everyone around the user. Ambient capture is off by default and can be disabled, according to the company. Ambi also says it does not store recordings and encrypts data, though it did not specify the encryption method. The product still depends on users telling other people when capture is active.
The funding shows investor interest in assistants that operate beyond a single chat window. It does not settle whether workplaces, customers or bystanders will accept persistent recording. Clear indicators, retention controls, security documentation and compliance with local consent laws will matter as much as the assistant’s ability to provide timely suggestions.
